She was born in a village near the state of Tennessee in the United States. He spent his childhood and adolescence there.

She was the youngest daughter of Floyd Richard Bullock and Zelma Priscilla.

Tina had two elder sisters. One is Juanita Curry and the other is Ruby Aline Bullock. Ruby was a songwriter. It was during World War II.

Their parents moved to Knoxville, Tennessee to work at a defense facility. They left three sisters with their grandparents as they were younger.

Her grandparents were radical religious. They served as deacons and deaconesses at Woodall Missionary Baptist Church.

After the war, they moved back to Knoxville with their parents. After a couple of years, they moved back to Nutbush to live permanently with the Flag Grove community.

Tina Turner attended Nutbush from first to eighth grade. She attended Flag Grove Elementary School.

Tina’s grandmother died when she was 16. So she went to live with her mother in St. Louis. Then she graduated from Sumner High School in 1958.

After graduation, she worked as a nurse’s aide at Barnes-Jewish Hospital.

Tina Turner and her sister went to nightclubs in East St. Louis frequently. There she saw a performance by Ike Turner’s band The Kings of Rhythm.

She was impressed by Ike Turner’s performance. Once she asked Ike Turner to give her a chance to sing in his band.

Although there were not many female singers in Ike’s group, he told Tina that, he would call her later. But Ike never did it.

One night in 1957, Tina Turner had the opportunity to sing a song during a break with Ike’s drummer Eugene Washington.
