If You Use Twitter, You Must Agree To the New Rules

Twitter has specified how many tweets a user can read in a day. Elon Musk, the chief executive of the micro-blogging site, said the initiative was taken to reduce abnormal levels of ‘data scraping’ and ‘system manipulation’. But this is done for a temporary period.

In a tweet on Saturday (July 1), Elon Musk said that temporary verified account holders can read 10,000 posts a day, unverified account holders can read 1,000 posts and new unverified account holders can read 500 tweets.

Although initially, this number was less. But later Musk said to increase it.

Earlier, Twitter announced that an account is required to view tweets. Musk called the new rules a “temporary emergency measure” on Friday.

Twitter’s CEO complained that hundreds or more companies were “very aggressively” scraping Twitter’s data. Which was affecting the users.

Many users were suddenly unable to use Twitter on Saturday morning. More than 7,500 users complained that they could not access their accounts during the night.

Meanwhile, after Elon Musk bought ownership of Twitter last year, many multinationals stopped advertising on the micro-blogging site. Now Twitter is trying to get those companies’ ads back by taking various steps. Besides, the company is also trying to earn money through subscriptions.

Before that, after buying Twitter for 44 billion dollars in 2022, there was a stir in the net world about the current owner, Elon Musk. The question arises how to run Elon Musk Twitter? The question arose about layoffs.

He reportedly fired Twitter’s Indian-origin CEO Parag Agarwal and several senior executives soon after taking ownership of the company.

According to US media reports, Twitter’s chief financial officer Ned Segal and head of legal and policy Vijaya Gadde have also left.

Reuters news agency reported Mr. Agarwal and two other senior executives were escorted out of Twitter’s headquarters office building in San Francisco by security guards.

Meanwhile, Brett Taylor, who has been Twitter’s chairman since November, has indicated in his LinkedIn profile update that he is no longer in that role.

Months of legal wrangling preceded the acquisition of Twitter. But now the question is, how Elon Musk will run this highly influential social media platform?

Mr. Musk, who describes himself as a supporter of “100 percent freedom of speech,” has been critical of Twitter’s management and moderation policies.

Elon Musk also had many disputes with the former owners over the terms of the purchase. He complained that he was not given the actual number of Twitter users.

He also said he would bring back many users who were banned by Twitter.

Some media reports suggest that Twitter may be laying off a lot of staff, not just senior executives. There are also rumors that 75 percent of the workers may lose their jobs.

But a large shareholder in Twitter and Tesla, another of Elon Musk’s companies, told the media that he doesn’t think Twitter has a lot of talented workers and has any plans to lay off.

Whether the new rules imposed by Twitter will be tolerable for users, there are doubts about whether new users will join Twitter. It’s also doubtful that newly added users won’t stay with Twitter at all.

Twitter says many users have complained of being unable to log in. This is risky. If Twitter gets hacked, many customers will face serious losses. It is now the need of the hour to confirm to the soon-to-be customers what Twitter thinks about this.
